"Hooray for Half-term!" shout the kids, while parents everywhere hesitate and groan. Just when life had settled into a routine and we were beginning to get used to dressing for work and school, the days flew past and half-term stares us in the face. However, there is no need to fear, for there are many exciting and inexpensive ways to entertain children of all ages. Whatever you decide to do, remember to keep safe and warm.
Autumn Walks and Collages
For those who fancy nature and the outdoors, fall is a season full of beautiful colours and a walk in the woods or a nature trail would calm every nature lover. Plan a day out with your family to find your favourite colours and sizes of pumpkins. Alternatively, find different types of leaves and different colours to make a beautiful collage. Conkers and berries would look amazing with leaves in an autumn collage!
Yummy Autumn Treats
Autumn is the season of apples and pumpkins and there are loads of delicious dishes waiting to be devoured. Let the budding chefs reveal their talents as they make pies, tarts, crumbles and pastries with fresh, sweet and seasonal fruit. Why not make a basket to share with neighbours, relatives, or even better those who would really appreciate a treat? Harvest is a time to share and show our care for those around us. We may be unaware of how lives have been affected by the virus and half-term could be that moment of charity that is much needed.
Not much of a cook, artist or nature-lover? Perhaps you will love setting up a spooky story corner in your living room and waiting for it to get dark. Find some sheets and even make some costumes or use the ones you have bought for Halloween and act out the terrifying tales. Light some candles and snuggle up under a blanket with popcorn and hot chocolate. Kids will love decorating the house with cobwebs. Another fun idea would be to have a bonfire night outside, complete with roasted marshmallows.
